The Loop helps us to celebrate our firm’s diverse perspectives, facilitate discussion and learning among colleagues, and share messages from senior leadership that reaffirm our commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Prior to 2019, AB’s intranet, the Loop, was an in-house, custom-built platform managed by a small team. Employee feedback confirmed that user experience was a barrier to greater adoption and usage of the Loop. Some users admitted that they never used the Loop and other responses identified Search as the most common Loop issue; outdated pages and information was the second most common problem.
Overall, users were visiting the Loop but noting that it was difficult to find the information they needed. When they did reach the page they sought, the information was not always up to date.
AB set out to find a new platform that would make the Loop more user friendly and would give greater flexibility of content ownership to departments and teams. With Interact, the new Loop allows teams to re-envision how they communicate and has inspired content owners to create user-centered experiences.
- New social features, including commenting, are extremely popular.
- AB has developed more “self-service” content, for example, expanding employee autonomy over Workday profile updates. A content area on the Loop now explains each update and the process for making changes. This has reduced the time the HR Technology Team spends answering individual requests.
- Before relaunching the Loop, AB had significant feedback regarding frustrations with Search. They have since implemented Keywords and Best Bets, resulting in only three “failure to find” incidences in nine months.
Since launching the new Loop on Interact in Spring of 2019, AB has seen tremendous adoption and usage, a robust expansion of content development, and excellent interaction among colleagues. In a recent firmwide, anonymous survey, AB’s score on the statement, “AllianceBernstein does a good job of communicating with employees,” outpaced the benchmark of 50 similar companies by 19 points, an indicator of the Loop’s importance. Using the Loop as its main engagement platform, AB has built a strong record on DE&I issues. The Human Rights Campaign Foundation rewarded AllianceBernstein with a score of 100 in its Corporate Equality Index. It has also been recognized as one of the best places to work for LGBTQ equality.
