Question 1

Why do you need specific questions to ask intranet vendors?

Accepted Answer

Intranet demos are controlled environments built to show a platform at its best, with tidy content, prepared searches, and simple permissions. Specific questions to ask intranet vendors move the conversation from the scripted walkthrough to your reality: your content, your employees, and your systems. They reveal how the platform handles messy data, edge cases, and everyday admin work before you commit to a contract.

Question 2

What does a strong answer from an intranet vendor look like?

Accepted Answer

A strong answer is a live demonstration, not a description. The vendor should run your scenarios in real time, show where each AI answer came from, explain what was prepared in advance, and be open about what needs manual effort or IT support. Weak answers tend to lean on prepared searches, logo walls, or claims like "everything is configurable" without proof.

Question 3

What should you ask in an intranet demo about AI search?

Accepted Answer

Test AI search with real employee questions taken from your search logs, service desk tickets, or HR queries, using their exact wording. Ask the vendor to show the sources behind each answer, repeat questions from profiles with different permissions, and try questions the platform shouldn't be able to answer. A good AI intranet cites current, permitted sources and says so when it doesn't know.

Question 4

How should you prepare intranet vendor questions before a demo?

Accepted Answer

Share your priorities with each vendor in advance so they can set up relevant employee profiles, content, and integrations. Keep some exact prompts and scenarios back for the meeting itself, so you see unrehearsed results. Use the same intranet vendor questions and scorecard for every platform on your shortlist, and note what worked, what needs a follow-up, and what you'd want proved again.

Question 5

How will the questions to ask intranet vendors change as AI intranets develop?

Accepted Answer

As AI intranets take on more tasks, such as booking time off or raising tickets through connected systems, buyers will need to look harder at what happens behind the scenes. Questions about permissions, source accuracy, audit trails, and admin effort are likely to matter more, because they show whether a platform can be trusted with real employee work, not just whether it looks impressive in a demo.
